As an observational astronomer I’ve been mostly focused on the topics of star formation and the interstellar medium within our own galaxy. Here’s a summary of what I’ve been up to recently.
- In May 2019 elected as co-chair for the LSST Stars, Milky Way, and Local Volume Science Collaboration. The overarching goals of the SMWLV SC is understanding the accretion history and structure of the Milky Way and the Local Volume, and the fundamental properties of stars within 300 pc of the Sun. These are also some of the main science drivers of both the telescope and the survey design of LSST, which will have unprecedented capability in the faint time domain.
- Member of the science team for the TMT-India led proposal for the High Resolution Optical Spectrograph, a 2nd generation echelle spectrograph for the Thirty Meter Telescope.
- Active in the United States Extremely Large Telescope initiative and the TMT Star and Planet Formation International Science Definition Team.
